    Surgical Safety

When considering MTF breast augmentation, most patients  focus on the excitement of their expected outcome rather than on the surgical procedure itself. This is understandable and it’s also very important to be fully informed prior to undergoing MTF breast augmentation. This means you’ll want to ask  questions about safety, as well as your expected results.

Although thousands of people undergo plastic surgery each year without experiencing complications, no surgical procedure is risk-free. To ensure that you are receiving the best care possible, you’ll need to do your research.

    Choosing a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Choosing a surgeon with Good credentials won’t necessarily guarantee successful results, but certainly improves your chances. If you’re considering MTF breast augmentation, you should seek out the expertise of a board certified plastic surgeon. By choosing a board-certified surgeon, you can be certain that your doctor has completed medical school and several years of training in the specialty of plastic surgery.

To maintain board certification, plastic surgeons must uphold the highest standards of quality and safety. They are also required to complete continuing education in patient safety and ethical standards. If you’re unsure of your surgeon’s credentials, you can verify them on the American Board of Medical Plastic Surgery website www.abplsurg.org.

    Accredited Surgery Centers

MTF breast augmentation can be performed in a hospital or independent facility. If your surgery is going to be performed in an independent facility, you should make sure it’s accredited. Several valid accreditations exist, including:

    • The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF)
    • The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)
    • The Joint Commission of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)

Accredited surgical centers must meet rigorous national standards for operating equipment, patient safety and surgeon credentials (all surgeons must be board certified). They must also come fully equipped with electrical power back-ups and fire safety equipment.

Surgeries performed in accredited surgical centers present exceptionally low rates of complication (less than half of 1 %) and mortality (less than one in 50,000). Because of their high levels of safety, an accredited surgical center will also lower your surgical costs.

How Dr. Mosser Ensures Patient Safety

Dr. Scott Mosser is a board certified plastic surgeon with years of experience performing plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures. He is a long-time member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Ensuring your safety is his primary goal.

MTF breast augmentation can either be performed in Dr. Mosser’s accredited surgery center, or at several institutions where he maintains staff privileges, including the Vista Surgery Center, San Francisco Surgery Center, California Pacific Medical Center, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital and Saint Mary’s Hospital.

To further ensure safety during MTF breast augmentation (and all surgical procedures), Dr. Mosser only performs surgery alongside a board-certified anesthesiologist. He also performs all post-surgical evaluations, rather than assigning this responsibility to a nurse or staff member so that he can effectively identify and intervene on any complications or issues that may occur following surgery.
