Obtaining Coverage

The process begins with verifying whether your insurance policy includes coverage for gender-affirming surgery. This can often be done before you officially decide to move forward with surgery. We also encourage patients to review their insurance provider’s explanation of benefits to better understand their plan coverage.

Once you’ve selected a surgeon at our practice, our Insurance Advocacy Team works closely with you to gather the necessary information and begin the authorization process. While our team handles the majority of the coordination with your insurance provider, we stay in close communication with you throughout the process and keep you informed along the way.

After all required documentation has been submitted, there is typically a waiting period while your insurance provider reviews the request. Depending on your plan, this process may take anywhere from 4–6 weeks or longer. Our team will keep you updated once your information has been received by your insurance provider and help you understand when you can expect a response.
