The technology for laser hair removal is still growing, and different lasers each have their own caliber of effectiveness and efficiency. Because we strive for excellence at the Gender Confirmation Center, we have chosen to use the Clarity laser by Lutronic.
Many lasers used for hair reduction only work on lighter skin tones, but because the Clarity laser works with all skin types, we are able to work with more patients that reflect the diversity of the trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive community. Our laser is high-powered and uses frequencies that are less painful than other lasers, allowing us to maximize our efficiency per session. The Clarity laser is best equipped to adjust its settings to accommodate each patient’s unique combination of hair thickness, hair color, and skin color. Several treatments to any one specific area are necessary because some follicles may not be damaged completely, causing some to regrow. As with all laser hair removal treatments, our laser sessions are spaced out to about one per month depending on the location(s) on the face or body being treated.
When patients arrive for a laser treatment, they will be asked to wash their face or the part(s) of their body that are going to be treated. The patient, provider, and anyone else present will be asked to wear protective eyewear whether the patient is being treated on their face or their body. Cold compresses are often used in between laser pulses to reduce any pain or inflammation that may occur. Patients often describe the sensation like a hot rubber band snapped against their skin. Because hair follicles are being vaporized, it may smell like sulfur. Treatments may last anywhere from a couple of minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area being treated.
